PRESS: Govt wants to subsidize manufacture of consumer gadgets

MOSCOW, Oct 6 (PRIME) -- The Russian government intends to raise production of laptops, computers, and tablets, and the Industry and Trade Ministry wants to increase investment in the industry to 210 billion rubles in 2023 from 144 billion rubles in 2022, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday.

Deputy Minister Vasily Shpak said promised on Monday at the Microelectronics forum subsidies “for serial production of electronics,” two sources who were at the meeting told the daily.

A source said that the measure means support of the companies that are going to manufacture electronics for the consumer segment, like tablets, smartphones, laptops, and personal computers.

A top manager of a large electronics maker said that companies can get subsidies now for the development of components or a launch of production, while manufacture of commercial batches of products is capital-intensive and state support is needed.

Parameters of a subsidy are still unclear, but “the total volume of state support of the industry will rise from 144 billion rubles in 2022 to 210 billion rubles in 2023,” he said.

The ministry said the measure is being considered and will be launched after it has been agreed by the government in the due order.
